Drill Rig Drive Upgrade with Centaflex Couplings
Custom drive shaft solution reducing harmonic vibration and improving reliability in demanding drill rig applications.
Problem
A drill rig operator was experiencing premature universal joint failures caused by harmonic vibration within the drive system. The repeated failures were increasing maintenance requirements and creating the risk of costly equipment downtime in demanding operating conditions.
Solution
Following consultation with our Welshpool branch, we recommended the use of CENTA Centaflex drive shaft couplings to address the vibration issues. The highly flexible couplings were selected for their ability to absorb torsional vibration and reduce stress on drivetrain components. To suit the application, we also designed and supplied a custom shaft assembly to connect the couplings and integrate with the existing drill rig drive system.
Outcome
The upgraded drive arrangement successfully reduced vibration-related failures and improved drivetrain reliability. After the initial installation performed successfully in service, the client proceeded with an additional order for ten more units, confirming the effectiveness of the customised solution.
