Concrete Plant Conveyor Drive Upgrade & Integration
How we upgraded a 20-year-old concrete plant conveyor drive using a bevel helical assembly with fluid coupling and upgraded bearings to improve reliability and maintenance.
Problem
A major Australian concrete producer required an upgrade to a 20-year-old conveyor drive system that had become difficult to maintain and unreliable. The main feed conveyor drive was located 20m above the batching plant, with limited access and tight space constraints, while still needing to integrate with existing equipment.
Solution
Chain & Drives conducted a detailed site inspection and engineered a bevel helical drive assembly mounted on a torque arm to suit the existing drive pulley. A fluid coupling was incorporated to provide soft-start capability, while the head drum was refurbished and upgraded with new SNG bearing assemblies and taconite seals for harsh operating conditions.

Outcome
The upgraded conveyor drive delivered smoother start-ups, improved reliability, and extended component life in a demanding concrete production environment. By integrating new drive technology with existing assets, downtime was reduced and long-term maintenance requirements were significantly improved.
