High Shock Load Mobile Equipment Drive System
How we engineered a heavy-duty centrifugal clutch drive assembly to withstand extreme shock loads and deliver reliable performance in mobile equipment applications.
Problem
A customer operating heavy-duty mobile equipment was experiencing repeated drive system failures due to high shock loads during operation. Conventional drive solutions could not withstand the extreme stresses involved, resulting in downtime, increased maintenance costs and potential safety risks.
Solution
Chain & Drives analysed the application and designed an Australian-manufactured FM heavy-duty centrifugal clutch drive assembly. The solution centred around a Lehane FM550-SP clutch rated to 2000 HP, supported by harmonic vibration couplings and ISB 140mm bearing assemblies to manage shock and vibration. A Mitsuboshi Giga Torque poly chain belt drive was integrated to deliver high torque capacity with low maintenance requirements.


Impact
The engineered drive system successfully handled the high shock loads of the application, delivering reliable operation in demanding conditions. Downtime and maintenance costs were significantly reduced, while improved drive stability enhanced operational safety and long-term equipment performance.
