Spherical Plain Bearings

Spherical bearings, also known as spherical plain bearings or spherical rod end bearings, are designed to accommodate angular misalignment and provide articulating motion.

Spherical Plain Bearings

They consist of an inner ring with an inner spherical surface, an outer ring with an outer spherical surface, and a sliding contact surface between them. This design allows for angular movement and can handle both radial and axial loads.

Spherical bearings are commonly used in applications where there is a need for articulating or oscillating motion, such as control linkages, steering systems, suspension components, and other situations where misalignment occurs.

Maintenance-free spherical plain bearings are used where there are particular requirements for operating life or where bearings with a metallic sliding contact surface are not suitable for lubrication reasons, e.g. under unilateral load. Spherical plain bearings allow spatial adjustment movements and, depending on the bearing type (radial, angular contact or axial spherical plain bearing), can support, radial, combined or axial loads.

At Chain & Drives, we stock GE Series, GEG Series and GEZ Series Spherical Plain Bearings in inch bore sizes 1/2″ to 2-1/2″ (ES) and metric bores from 5mm-160mm.
